Sacred sites: the Abbey of San Galgano and the Hermitage of Montesiepi

The Cistercian Abbey of San Galgano is located approximately 28 km from Colle di Val d’Elsa along the old Via Maremmana connecting the Sienese area with Massa Marittima and the sea. The Abbey, one of the first examples of Italian Gothic architecture (XII XIV centuries) is located in one of the most beautiful areas of the Tuscan countryside: our Professional Guides will narrate the story and vicissitudes marking its long construction and make you discover the ancient Hermitage of Montesiepi (XII century): the circular Romanesque church built around a rocky outcrop where Galgano Guidotti, back in 1181, stuck his sword as a sign of penance and renunciation of weapons.

With our Guide you will discover also the beauty, harmony and mysticism of the most important holy places in the province of Siena: the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore; the castle of Monteriggioni and Badia a Isola, the Hermitage of San Leonardo al Lago and the Hermitage of Lecceto, the Benedictine Abbey of St. Antimo.

The visit of San Galgano can be matched to a guided tour of some of the most fascinating hamlets and sacred spots of the Val d’Elsa area such as San Gimignano, Colle di Val d’ElsaPoggibonsiMonteriggioni.
